A person should do his best at everything he does. He might get special things if he does his work. For instance, here I am in Tempe, Arizona, in the car doing schoolwork when I should be out there on the field having fun playing in a soccer tournament, or watching my brothers play. But I didn't do my school work, try my hardest, or didn't care. I thought I would be out here playing in a tournament anyways, but I learned it the hard way. My soccer team really needed me out there. I would give a hundred and ten percent of my energy into soccer. I hate schoolwork. I hardly give an effort to it, but that is what is necessary for my future. I don't want to be a janitor.
If you had a job and didn't do your best or try your hardest, you would get fired on the first day. My dad has to be at work every day. Even on a Friday, when he wakes up at 1.00 a.m. in the morning to go to adoration at the chapel for an hour, he still gets to work at 8:00 a.m. I believe that you can do anything you put your mind to, even if you think that it is impossible. It just takes self-discipline.
Also, if you do your best you might get a scholarship or a promotion in your job. You might get awards or rewards. A reward for a kid is to stay up late or get a new toy. A reward for a teenager is some extra cash or special privileges. A reward for an adult is a better higher-paying job, more money, or more responsibility. When I do my work it makes me feel good. When I don't do my work I feel like I lied. It also makes me feel sick.
A person should do his best for himself, not for someone else. I could have gone to a Phoenix Suns basketball game with my team after the tournament day, but I had bad grades. I had a couple of hard pages in math.
I couldn't do anything until got it done. It took me only about 40 minutes. But not doing it cost me a lot of privileges.
I have learned my lesson to DO MY BEST IN EVERYTHING. No one else is going to do it for me.
Here is a quote from J.G. Holland -"God gives every bird its food, but He does not throw it into the nest."
