Getting Involved in the Community

by Anonymous

Most teenagers I know want to do community service but say they don’t have time, are busy with school, or don’t know where to volunteer. Getting involved in our community is not only a service to others but can be rewarding in many other ways. Getting involved in your community through volunteering and work is a great way to develop social skills, become a leader, and add onto your resume. Places like United Way, the Salvation Army, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Mayors Teen Advisory Council, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and Youth In Action are all organizations that are eager for youth volunteers. Being a part of groups like these make a difference in the community and can mold teenagers into tomorrow’s leaders. Along with serving others, volunteering is a great way of leading by example. Our younger brothers and sisters need mentors and this is a great way to show them how important getting involved in our community is.
