SHIPROCK, NM – Due to another break in, the Shiprock Branch Library, a branch of the Farmington Public Library, has been closed until further notice. Shiprock Branch Library patrons may continue to use their existing library card to enjoy library privileges at the Farmington Public Library, located at 2101 Farmington Avenue.
This is the second time in a month that vandalism has affected the library's ability to serve the community. The last incident was on September 30, and the library was closed for approximately 2 weeks.
Details are still not known about the scope of the current break-in. The authorities have been notified and an investigation is currently being conducted.
The Shiprock Branch Library has been in operation since 2001, as a result of a partnership between the City of Farmington and the Shiprock Chapter. Since opening, it has served an average of 40,000 people per year. It has been operated by the Farmington Public Library with help from the Tribal Libraries Program, administered by the New Mexico State Library.
