Farmington Public Library
Photo Contest Winners Selected

Last year, the Farmington Public Library unveiled its new library cards designs featuring photographs taken by local photographers. The response to these new designs has been overwhelming, and the library decided to hold a contest to feature a wider variety of designs on its library cards. Local photographers were invited to submit their work earlier this month, and the winners of this contest have been chosen.

The winners are: Ron Lashley, Tammy Wethington, Karen Dussaman, Eileen Smith, Ken MacAdams, Andrew Wracher, and Paul Drechsel. Leona Simms is the winner of the contest held for City of Farmington employees and their families. Each winner will be awarded $200, and their photograph will be featured on an upcoming library card.

Over 100 photos were submitted for the contest. The winning photos were chosen based on how they represented the Four Corners, and suitability for the intended purpose. “It was difficult for the contest judges to choose a favorite,” said Jenny Lee Ryan, Program Coordinator for the Farmington Public Library. “We got so many beautiful photographs that represented so many aspects of our local life and the uniqueness of our area.”

The new photographic library cards will be available later this year, and the designs will decorate a variety of items, available for purchase at the Farmington Public Library Foundation’s online “Café Press” store. Anyone wishing to get a library card may bring a picture ID, and proof of mailing address to the library. Children under the age of 18 will need to have a parent or guardian, with a valid library card, sign their application. First-time library cards will be issued free of charge. Anyone wishing to replace their current library card with one of the new designs will need to pay a $2 card replacement fee. These library cards will be valid at the Farmington Public Library, the Shiprock Branch Library, and can be used for online resources, including downloadable eBooks and audio books, at www.infoway.org.

For more information about how to get a library card at the Farmington Public Library or Shiprock Branch, go to www.infoway.org or call 599-1270. The Farmington Public Library is open 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday and Saturday, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday.
