Infoway Dial-up Internet Service
(Print these instructions) Instructions for setup are in the left navigation panel for the various operating systems. You will need Adobe™ Acrobat Reader to open and print the documents.
1. How do I get Internet through the Library?
- To get two hours per day of free Internet access, simply fill out an Infoway Account Application. Return your completed application to the reference desk at the Main Library.
- You must have a current library card that is free from overdue materials, fines or other blocks. Library card records may be checked at the main service desk.
- The address and telephone information on your Infoway application must match the address and telephone information on your library card record. Library card record changes must be made in person at the main service desk.
2. How much does Infoway Internet access cost?
- Internet access through the Library’s Infoway server is free.
3. Are there any restrictions?
- Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian’s signature on the Infoway account application.
- Each Infoway account is limited to two hours of access per day.
- Internet access through the Library is not restricted by filters. Refer to the Library’s Internet Use Policy. A copy of the policy is available at the reference desk.
4. If there are five people in my family, how does an Infoway account work?
- Each person who has a library card may apply for an Infoway account. For children under the age of 18 years, the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on the Infoway Account Application.
- Everyone shares the same connection icon on the computer, but each person enters his/her own username and password in the “connect box” before dialing up. The time limit is two hours for each account.
5. Can everyone in my family use the same username and password?
- Each person applies for his/her own account. Each account must have a different username. You may choose to use the same password.
6. Does Infoway include e-mail?
- Each Infoway account includes an e-mail account. The Library provides an e-mail program that is accessible over the Web. Instructions for using this program are available at the Library’s reference desk.
- If you choose, you may use a different e-mail program (such as Outlook) to receive and send e-mail.
7. What happens when I reach my 2-hour limit?
- When your 2-hour limit has been reached, the Library’s Internet server will disconnect your computer.
8. If I only use fifteen minutes today, do the remaining one hour forty-five minutes apply to tomorrow?
- You are allowed a maximum of two hours of access per day. Unused time is not credited to your account.
9. Do I need to install anything on my computer?
- When you return your completed Infoway Account Application you will be given set-up instructions to guide you through the process of changing the settings on your computer. Instructions are linked on the left for your operating system.
- Your computer must be equipped with a modem, and you must connect a telephone line to your computer before you can use any dial-up or online service, such as the Internet.
- Your computer also needs an Internet browser program, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape. You may check out an installation CD if needed. Installation CDs are available at the reference desk.
- If your computer is a Macintosh, you must have a dialer for PPP and an Internet browser already installed. We will provide the dial-up settings you need.
