Teen Tips

There is a girl in one of my classes who I have a crush on. I’ve been dying to talk to her
but can’t get up the guts. How do you think I should approach her?

---Kurtis

Kurtis, you will learn that actually talking to a girl is one of the most difficult things a
guy can do without looking like a total buffoon. But, there is hope. As said by the little
boy on Adam Sandler’s Big Daddy, “Initiating the conversation is half the battle”. I have
learned this to be true. So, here is what you do. Ask her a quick question on a homework
assignment you got a few days ago. That breaks the ice. Ask her to explain herself.
Then say how much you think the teacher is a rambling know-it-all. Or, if she likes the
teacher (usually you can tell), say how cool he is for giving you guys a break on the quiz
last week. Basically, talk about things that are familiar with both of you. That way, you
can never run out of things to say. And besides, girls do most of the talking anyway. Just
smile and nod and take it all in for what it’s worth. Good luck, and be grand.

MTAC

The New Year is almost upon us, and Mayor’s Teen Advisory Council is planning projects for the next year. Our first meeting promises to be special since we have invited
Senator Bill Sharer to speak about community involvement. At the meeting, we will
discuss upcoming projects and look at MTAC’s vision for the next year. We plan to do a
Valentine’s Day project as well as begin planning our end-of-the-year Teen Summit. If
you are interested in helping the community through MTAC, please let us know. You
can contact us by either calling the Teen Zone call at 566-2201 or e-mailing
mtacyap@infoway.org.

Weekly Spark

The Teen Zone has a great addition each week! Every week, we’ll ask you a question
based on "The Daily Spark" by Spark Notes. Anyone with an idea can write a response,
and send it to the Teen Zone at mtacyap@infoway.org.
It’s the New Year, and everybody is thinking about what they’d like to do in the New
Year. Everybody’s making resolutions and trying to improve themselves in the coming
year. What’s your New Year’s resolution? How are you going to try to improve in the
coming year?
Send your thoughts to the Teen Zone at mtacyap@infoway.org or for more information,
