The following is an article by a 9-year-old who thinks teenagers are bad role models for
him. He says is a very clear and frank manner what he thinks teenagers are doing
wrong. If you think he’s wrong, please write to the Teen Page to defend your position.
Jermey Klepac (age 9)
There are some things teenagers do that I don’t like. They’re too bossy, and they’re so
sensitive. They get upset too easily.
Teenage girls put on a lot of makeup, think they’re all cute, and wear tight pants. You can
see their busts hanging out. All they want to do is talk to boys, hang out with them, and
date them. Wiggling their bottoms around, they show off to boys. They wear tight
clothes, they dance in front of boys, and they talk about boys. They kiss boys, but they
hide behind a tree. I hate kissing.
About teenage boys - they have their baggy pants down to their private parts and it’s
really disgusting. They have there hats backwards, and walk all cool past girls to go on
dates with them. They show off by cussing when kids are around.
When I go past Farmington High School, the teenagers are smoking. Smoking is really
bad for you, but they think smoking is fun. I think most teenagers aren’t good role
models for me because they smoke and kiss in front of kids, cuss, and wear clothes that
show too much of themselves.
The Mayor’s Teen Advisory Council is working to organize a Teen Summit at the end of
April, and we need your help. We need school principals, student council leaders, or any
teen who wants to help to come to MTAC’s next meeting. On March 4, we will meet at 6
P.M. in order to review the issues teens would like to discuss at the Teen Summit. We
will also be deciding who will be the guest speaker, and all the other details concerning
the summit.
The Teen Summit will be a great opportunity for teens in the community to interact with
community leaders. The summit should take place on April 24 from 9 A.M. to 12 noon
at the Farmington Public Library. At the summit, we will have a guest speaker, and then
we will have break-out sessions so that teens cab discuss issues with community leaders.
If you would like to help with this exciting program, come to the MTAC meeting on
March 4 at 6 P.M. at the Farmington Public Library. For more information about the
Teen Summit or Mayor’s Teen Advisory Council, call the Teen Zone at 566-2201 or e-
mail teenzone@infoway.org.
