Homosexual. That word, those”people”, send some people running. People campaign saying that gays do not have the right to anything, that they are people condemned to hell. Marriage, a ceremony so sacred that only straight couples can participate? Excuse me! You only have the right to share everything legally and private, with someone of the opposite sex? That's ridiculous! It's only illegal to beat up some straight man or woman, but when it happens to a gay man or woman, your file gets “lost”? I figured as much. What kind of world do we live in? Why lie and say that all men are created equal? I don't remember reading, “... but not if your gay.”, in the Constitution. Nobody seems to realize, that homosexuals... are people too!
All of America seems to be against gay marriage. Why? The President of the United States, is trying to pass a law that will outlaw it forever. Isn't marriage connected to our “unalienable rights”? Doesn't it fall under “... the pursuit of happiness.”, or does it only apply if AMERICA is happy with it? Gays are allowed to have Companion Unions, but no state will ever recognize it, it's not even real. So really, what's the point? In Massachusetts gay marriage is legal, and in both San Francisco, and our own Albuquerque, they issued marriage liscences over the summer. They were issued by people who were not afraid to speak out, not afraid to follow what they know is right. But in both SF and Alb., the state intervened and canceled all of the liscences, because it wasn't “morally acceptable”. That's a load if I ever heard one. Now, not only are they attacking the marriage issue, they are attacking their right to have a family. In one state they are trying to outlaw women being surrogates for gay male couples. In other states gay men and women are not allowed to adopt. They are deemed unfit to parent. How ridiculous is that? I mean, thousands of teenage girls have children, and are unfit to parent, but by god, they get to keep their children. A common misconception that people have about gays is that, all they do is drink, party, and have un-protected anonymous sex. And that couldn't be further from the truth. They can also love, and they are as human as everyone else.
Gay rights, something that is practically unheard of in the U.S. . In America, gays have little to no rights at all. But as we sit quiet in our moral little country, above us in Canada, they allow gay marriage, and give gays the rights that they deserve. Gay men and women can actually walk the streets without being stopped by people for being “indecent”. Canada also boasts a wide gay variety of television shows, some, top rated. In America, two girls were denied their right to their senior prom. School officials took it into their hands, and decided that it was wrong, and banned them. Luckily for the girls they had students on their side that rallied for them, and they ended up being let in. In fact, about two years ago, a girl in Oklahoma, became the high schools first female Prom KING, and she was there with her GIRLFRIEND. When will America decide to forfeit, and just let is gonna happen, happen. In the military you have, “Don't ask, Don't tell”. So really, you make all the gays hide out, fell like bigger outcasts then they are seen to be. I doubt many men would object to having a gay man beside them in battle, protecting their butts, than nobody at all. Do you ever hear about gay bashing in papers? No! To America, it ain't no big deal unless someone is killed, and even then, inside, they don't care. Why, is it right for America, to alienate their unalienable rights?
The biggest fight are about God and religion. Weather God created homosexuals just to condemn them to Hell. But what they don't seem to see, is right there in black & white, “...God created homosexuals.”. I believe that God put homosexuals here on purpose, to teach the world, how to accept. One of the biggest achievements for homosexuals in this area, is that, as we live and breath, there is a gay bishop. He was elected to that position by his peers, and he was an open gay man. So now, if God is so against homosexuality, then why did he let a gay man preside over his “house”? Why did he not strike that man dead? Because, God accepts, God... is humane. There are tons of anti-gay ideals in the world. In music, you have Eminem, a man who promotes gay-bashing as a humane thing, but in reality, he doesn't hate them? One of the most famous cases, is the case of Matthew Shepard. Matthew Shepard was cornered in a bar and taken out of city limits, and beaten and robbed. Three days later, he died, having never come out of a coma. All because two men decided to play God. They decided to punish Matthew for his so-called sins. Could someone please tell me why? Why would God, the creator of the entire human race, condemn 20 million U.S. Citizens to hell, for being someone they were born to be?
In closing, I do not ask you to change sides, all I ask is that you consider this side. Take time to open your eyes and see the torture, the pain, the hurt, that's going on right in front of you. Homosexuals carry a lot on their shoulders. They are blamed for AIDS, and for the corruption of Americas youth. What about racists?, sexists?, anti-semetics?, why aren't they blamed? They are one of the most vile people in Gods creation, they, are the root of the corruption of Americas youth. Gays are just doing as they have always known. Let them be who they are, do what they do, just... let them be.
Do you think it is weird if a girl eats on the first date?
---Talicia
Of course it isn’t weird to eat on the first date, or any date for that matter. Everyone eats. I tend to take dates out to dinner on the first date because you can chat and get to know each other while you eat. If you are worried about looking like a slob on your first date, here are a few tips on how to be a neater eater. Do not order any soups because of the splash factor. Do not order any long pasta like spaghetti or fettuccini because they tend to make a mess and could flip off your fork and onto your lap. One more thing, do not order any one item that is really big such as a double cheeseburger or a huge sub. Stretching your mouth as wide as possible could be a bit embarrassing if you saw how you looked. If you know your guy has a sense of humor, maybe scratch off the last tip, it could contribute to an easy conversation. Good luck and be grand.

MTAC is working hard on their upcoming project. Their next project is collecting supplies to send to the troops. We will collect supplies at area schools and give them to the Blue Star Mothers who will send them to the troops. We especially need supplies for the hot weather. Sunscreen and lip balm with sunscreen would be especially helpful. Because of the hot temperature in Iraq, however, the Blue Star Mothers ask that we not donate any chocolate. We need students to set up collection boxes in their schools to help gather supplies. There will also be a box set up in the Farmington Public Library.
MTAC members also wanted to spread some encouraging words to the troops and will be making a CD to send to them. We would like poetry, letters and anything else to help encourage our men and women in the service. We will be giving final details at the next MTAC meeting on March 3, so if you’d like to help be sure to come to the Farmington Public Library at 7 PM.
We will also have speaker Angela Watkins speaking about the importance of working together. If you are interested in helping with these or any other MTAC project, please contact the Teen Zone by calling 566-2201 or e-mailing teenzone@infoway.org.
